Google started it, then Microsoft announced they're going to add PWAs to the Windows App Store (which ironically will mean you can get Google Docs from the Windows Store and have it's tile right next to Word in Win 10?). Apple is in the game too - promising tech with an interesting future.

Microsoft offered 6 months of additional servicing of Win 10 build 1607, starting May 2018 for Win Enterprise customers. According to recent announcements there will be a for-fee option to obtain 12 months instead of the offered six. Details are scant but we should know more by April.
